Crouched in opposite sides of the cab, two girls, one with eyes glued to her Instagram feed and the other nonchalantly gazing out of the window rode on, awaiting their destination. When all of a sudden,

Aastha looks up and with a sudden jolt sits up straight with gleaming eyes as the cab rounds the police chowki corner of 10 number market.

As the glimmering yellow radiance filled the view, both Anvi & Aas couldn’t wait to pop into what looked like Aladdin’s cave replica – Hideout Bhopal.

We stepped in through a doorway cut out of the giant brick wall façade flushed with lush greenery. It felt as if we walked into a wonderland. The doubled heighted area showcased a cluster of lamps hung at different levels looking as if they are hovering mid-air evoking a sense of magic and curiosity as to what the place has instore. 

The ground floor caters to the families and has an air-conditioned indoor seating space with large glass windows and an outdoor seating space. Adaptive reuse of scrap chairs and tables with a tinge of renovation was a unique concept. Further walking in we came across an enclosed U-shaped congregational area dedicated to private parties and kitties with colourful interiors and a shamiana style roof with a centrally suspended lamp creating visual axis and symmetry.

The other side of the central courtyard area has Hideout’s very own “stomach clinic” with its takeaway window opening to the street. Adjacent to this, the façade wall with vertical garden resonates ecological and sustainable aspects of the restaurant’s and its owner’s vision. In addition, the property offers you various backdrops for clicking and getting clicked. Capture this!

Designed on levels, the first floor is a maze like area with private cozy coupes catering to small groups and couples. The mud plaster cladding on walls, jaali perforations, Islamic niches, arched openings for visual connectivity and organic raw nature of stepped walls makes the space unique and traditionally charming. The inbuilt seating, antique bronze showpieces and the colourful ornamental mosaic lamps enhance the ambiance. Colored cushions and upholstery break the monochrome environment and add life and energy. The seating at mid level has been developed in a similar fashion to blend it with its surroundings.

Settling down in one of the coupes we went through the elaborated vegetarian menu and ordered a crispy chilly potato and were suggested to try the their traditional gol gappe shots ordered their latest addition to their menu – the Saffron shake., French fries and our favourite crispy corn. Utilising the preparation time we clicked a lot of pictures and enjoyed the mood.

 The presentation of the food was on point and the taste equally satisfying. Like two hungry goblins we attacked the food and drinks. With our eyes aroused by the warm and sombre surroundings, the bellies full of delicious food and our minds in wonderland we felt just the way Alice would have.
