City knock and the Jonker walk | Melaka | Malaysia

Kurious kannya explores the birthplace of Malay civilisation.

MELAKA, MALAYSIA

Baba - Nyoya houses cuddling the narrow streets , the LIT Jonker walk with crazy bargain shopping and enormous variety of the local street food, Red painted Dutch brick buildings , intricately carved temples and mosques, Victorian fountains and the buildings painted in all the possible pastel shades. Melaka aka Melacca stands as Malaysia's small little real-life fairy tale like UNESCO World Heritage site.It has a vast history of the colonial rule by the Dutch, British and the Portuguese which can be easily noticed in the architecture style followed in the replica of Venice.

Adjusted , adapted and settled ,me and my friends decided to get a break from the bustling 2 weeks spent in KL( Kuala Lumpur).
After a day long planning we were finally ready with our backpacks and gathered a night before leaving, at my place. Tring-Tring the alarm rang and we tucked our selves up and sat in the uber.Chirpy, enthusiastic and excited we were on our way to  the TBS( Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) to catch our morning bus at 7 a.m and kick start one of the most memorable and breathtaking journey.

On our arrival at Melaka Sentral, we grabbed some breakfast and headed towards the Dutch Square as most of the attractions are clustered near by at walking distance from there ,like:

Christ church Melaka
The Stadthuys
Jonker Walk - This is a long lateral street also known as the china town market in the heart of the city. It has numerous antique shops and galleries selling out delicate handicrafts and vintage fashion clothing.
St. Paul's Hill
A'famosa Fort
Maritime museum
Kampung Kling Mosque
Taming Sari Tower

St. Paul's Church

After clickin a 1000 pictures and walking for nearly 5 km we were quite exhausted and sat in the Jonker cafe for lunch. The Jonker street has tons of cafes and restaurants to cater to your taste buds. Chinese, Thai, Baba-Nyoya, Indian, Malaysian you can just find any cuisine there to quench your craving.

After settling in one of the cafes namely Jonker cafe , I ordered some Mee Goreng for myself. It is similar to the stir fried noodles and is served with Sambal - a garlic , chilly and shrimp paste.

With our bellies full we were ready to pull!
Our next attraction was the Floating mosque aka The Straits mosque.
A splendor worship place built using the Midlle Eastern and Malay craftmanship placed as a border between the sea and the land. It was definitely the highlight of our trip! A must visit for those who love peaceful and calm sunsets. Grab yourself some local tea from one of the stalls outside the mosque and sit at the secluded sandbank just parallel to the mosque and  let the sun fade in the sea. A mesmerizing site indeed!

** For the curious explorers like kannya - Take the road across the bridge and walk through a private gateway.A hint of Europe on the streets of Malaysia! A partially constructed Portuguese-like town with a numerous unoccupied beautiful buildings. A contrast to the streets of the city center.

The final destination was the but obvious Jonker Walk trail. The street is one of a kind and should be on your bucket list if you are a foodie. Your Melaka trip is incomplete if you skip on the Jonker walk specially on the Fridays and Saturdays!!

The Jonker strip had a completely different and trendy looks and feel in the evening, the entire path had been made traffic  free and transformed into an open air night market. With enormous number of stalls all lit and glittery and aroma in the entire atmosphere its definitely checked in for being the most happening places of Melaka.
