Cleanse your soul and rejuvenate your palette with kurious kannya @ 32 degree North East 

Sheets, plans, drawings and submissions. Work came to absolutely no end. Even sleep didn’t give us an escape from the reality of VIIth semester architecture. *Sigh* we needed a break. Curiosity led us to 32 dne with their interesting name and a hope to get away from our usual routine cafes, lounges and restaurants.

With our pre-booked cab waiting for us at new market, we started our journey.Crossing the Bhadbhada road we immersed ourselves in the view outside. The blue shades of the sky reflecting in the water was stroked by the tints of greenery all around. Our work-detox had already begun.

Once in the proximity of NLIU, we peered out of the window and scanned our surroundings in search of our destination. Based on experiences of city life, we assumed to identify the place from afar by its bright and flashy lights and the hoardings leading up to its façade. Puzzled upon finding no such clues to our location, we followed the online maps. Suddenly our cabbie spotted a sign board directing us to turn to reach 32 degree North East.

Hidden from plain sight view and nestled within the flora of the site, we were taken aback by the astounding view in front of us. Completely unaware about the ambiance and architecture of the place, 32*NE amazed us with its machan seating. As we were taking in our surroundings, a chance meeting with the owner gave us quite an insight behind the inspiration that led to the origins of the lounge. The owner guided us to one of the 16 spread machans, sharing his professional experiences from all over the world that helped him and his 2 childhood buddies to conceive and implement unique ideas on site. The most striking architectural character was the form of the machan. Unlike the stereotypical corners, the round shape synchronized with its organic surroundings. Raised to different levels, they succeeded in creating a dynamic aura.

Modified cabana like machans had rustic look iron structural members that resonated with the wooden flooring and the elliptical steps. The semi open structure was capped by a blue fibre glass resting on an iron framework , a series of alternately coloured curtains circumscribed the platform. The triad of handcrafted spherical lamps warmly lit the entire scene.

Settling down on one of the tables we focused on their extremely elaborate menu. It included a very versatile Indo-western form of cuisine. With a very intriguing fusion of Japanese , Mexican, Thai, Chinese with Indian cuisine, it was a different approach to pure vegetarian food. We narrowed down to Paneer Yakitori Cream and lemonade vowing to try their special malt beer and other recommended mocktails.

While waiting for our order we pondered over the compelling concept, so carefully showcased through elements all around us. From maintaining the sanctity of the site by preserving all existing trees and planning the entire built mass around them to keeping intact the cultural context of Bhopal yet fusing it with the global picture. Giving back to nature, the numerous fruit bearing trees, Pomegranate, Jackfruit, Banana, Mango, and Rudraksh to name a few embellished the environs attractively.

With refreshed minds, we dug into the smartly presented dish and could only stop eating to sip our fuzzy pink lemonades. The food indeed tasted nothing like regular Indian gourmet and we savored every bite thoroughly. It was a complete body detox as promised by 32DNE with mind body and soul all at peace.

                                            

                                    

32DNE is an escape into the bounty of nature and an entry portal into the rich amalgamation of the Indian and global palette.
